Smart Lock Stories
The Pet Owner
Pets are the heart and soul of our home. They’re there when we get back after a long day from work and can often give people a purpose in life to get up and about in the morning. So it’s no surprise that us pet owners will do all we can to protect our furry friends.
From pet insurance to the best bowls of food, investing in our pets is well worth the cost to know that they’re safe, happy and healthy. And although it might not be a first thought, the development of smart technology has also provided us with an additional way to protect our perfect pets.
Families have been utilising the many benefits of smart home technology in recent years – from monitoring a home via outdoor security cameras to controlling home appliances with just a few words via a voice assistant, smart home products have quickly become an integral part of our day to day lives.
And when it comes to our pets, it’s no different. Smart locks are quickly becoming a huge help for pet owners who need to leave their prized pets on their own for short periods of time.
We recently heard from smart lock user, Sue, who has just rescued a dog from her local shelter. She works full time on a hybrid working approach, with two days in the office, three days at home. But how does she manage to settle her new furry friend in at home when she’s away? Find out how in our recent ‘Smart Lock Story’:
Sue lives with her housemate, Jane, and her two-year old spaniel, Joey, who she rescued two months ago.
6.30am
I wake up early to prepare for the day ahead. Today, I will make my way into the office, which is 30 minutes away from my house, which I share with my friend, Jane. She works full time in a local gift shop, so will also be heading out of the house for a full day of work.
Before I get up and get ready, I check in on my new Indoor Camera, which I purchased to check in on my two-year old spaniel, Joey, when I was out of the house. Luckily, my workplace allowed me to work from home for the first few weeks I had him, but now he’s settled, I am back in the office two days a week as normal.
I check in on my Indoor Camera to see Joey still asleep in his basket in the kitchen, so I know I can get ready for work in peace.
7.00am
Once I’m ready for work, I can focus on Joey, giving him some breakfast and taking him for a short walk so he can burn off some energy. He will be left on his own for the first two hours of the day, and then our dog walker, Tom, will arrive to take him for a big walk with some of his puppy pals.
I say goodbye to Joey and make my journey into the office.
8.50am
Once at work, I check in on my Indoor Camera again to see Joey playing with his chew toy and know I can get on with my morning with peace of mind.
11.00am
I recently invested in a smart lock, which has been a huge help to let in the dog walker and other friends and family who check in on Joey if I ever get held up at work.
I created a virtual key for Tom as soon as I installed my smart lock, as this was the main reason for me investing in one. Jane had heard about them, being a lover of all things tech, and suggested it might be a big help when I had made the decision to adopt a dog.
I love the fact that I can check in to see that Tom has arrived, and with the addition of my Indoor Camera, I also get motion detection alerts, so I can see that Tom has accessed the house without an issue.
I created a mobile key quickly and easily for Tom, and he uses this through his smartphone, which makes it really easy and convenient for him too. It also means there’s no need for me to get a spare key cut for him, or worry from my perspective that he may lose it!
From the audit trail on my smart lock, I can see that Tom arrived back at the house at 12.30pm, and put Joey back in the kitchen securely.
1pm
At lunch time, after a quick check on Joey via my smartphone, I ask my Mum to check in on him later on this afternoon. Jane is having to work later now, so won’t be home by 3pm, so I just want to make sure Joey is happy and safe.
3pm
I can see via the audit trail that Mum has arrived at the house. I gave her a key tag for my smart lock, as this means she can easily add it to her car keys for safe keeping.
5pm
After a long day, I’m back home and decide to take Joey for another walk as it’s a beautiful day. I’m not a fan of walking with my smartphone, as I worry I’ll lose it, so with no house keys and just my key tag in my pocket, I head out for a lovely walk.
When I arrive home, Jane is back, letting herself in with her smartphone.
We’ve both been hugely impressed with the smart lock since it was installed, and it’s been well worth the investment. We have a voice assistant and other smart home products, and this has just been an extension to the easy and convenient way we can control appliances in our home.
We chose Yale for our smart lock as we know it’s a trusted brand in the security market and is leading in the smart lock world too. With a new addition to my family, I wanted to ensure Joey was safe and secure at all times, so it made sense to choose Yale.
We’ll be investing in more smart home technology, including outdoor security cameras very soon!
